Thomas J. (“Tom”) Moses is  Of Counsel in Selman Breitman’s Los Angeles office and is a member of the firm’s Insurance practice group. He represents insurance companies by analyzing and, when necessary, litigating insurance coverage disputes, involving claims arising from of a wide variety of coverages, including commercial general liability, D&O/E&O, and professional liability policies.  Tom’s clients include property/casualty insurance companies, managing general agencies, and third-party administrators. He also has experience in defending insurance companies and their adjusters in claims that involve complex issues relating to “best practices” in adjusting and resolving first- and third-party claims.

Decades-long experience in Insurance enables Tom to identify and evaluate complex coverage issues to serve his clients' interests. He has worked closely with General Counsel and senior claims management personnel to address and remediate potential extra-contractual exposures. Tom has also had success in the appellate courts in obtaining writs and other relief for clients, and has been responsible for published opinions from the First and Second Appellate Districts of California, including the precedent setting case Certainteed Corp. v. Superior Court, 222 Cal.App.4th 921 (trial court may extend 14-hour deposition limit for cases where witness’s survival is doubtful).

Tom is called upon by his clients in the Insurance industry to give presentations on various subject matters relating to “good faith” and the avoidance of extra-contractual exposures in the handling of insurance claims.  He was one of the founding members of the Insurance Law section of the State Bar of Texas. He is proud to have been accorded membership in both the Phi Beta Kappa and Order of the Coif honor societies upon graduation from California State University Long Beach and McGeorge School of Law/University of the Pacific, respectively.

Originally from Long Beach, California, Tom presently resides in Dallas, Texas. When not helping clients with their legal needs he spends his time reading the latest Sherlock Holmes pastiches or adds to his collection of San Francisco ephemera.
