Paul Stephan Conducts Seminar On Litigating Rental Car Law

On August 7, 2014, Orange County partner Paul Stephan presented a seminar on "Litigating Rental Car Law" to the summer meeting of the Orange County Legal Secretaries Association. Part of the program dealt with the issues of the legal effect of purchasing "Supplemental Liability Insurance" and "Collision Damage Waivers" in regards to third party claims for personal injury. Additionally, participants were taken through the application of the California Civil Code which, unbeknownst to most lawyers and paralegals, controls 99% of the rental car transaction process.

Orange County Legal Secretaries Association President Pamela Schuld lauded the seminar as a "wonderful presentation, very thorough and truly insightful."

Mr. Stephan, who was selected for membership in the American Board of Trial Lawyers, handles both litigation and transactional matters for rental car companies. In 2010, Mr. Stephan prevailed in the landmark Court of Appeals case of Flores v. Enterprise (2010) 188 Cal.App.4th 822, which limited the liability of rental car companies.
