Elaine Harwell Obtains Privacy Certification
Cyber risk and liability are now paramount concerns for every organization, enterprise, and their insurers. Many law firms claim to be in this area, but few actually have trained professionals. Selman Breitman does.
Elaine heads the firm's Cyber Law practice group, which includes accomplished cyber liability counsel representing clients in all areas of data privacy. Her data privacy practice includes assisting clients in managing emerging risks and conducting risk assessments related to their privacy policies, as well as litigating civil lawsuits involving privacy issues. She can tap into the firm's experience in the insurance field to help clients use insurance as a business tool, and the firm will also continue to advise insurers concerning coverage issues arising out of new cyber insurance products and GL forms.
Although many lawyers and law firms claim expertise in this new area, Elaine, an 11-year lawyer, has completed a program focusing on U.S. private-sector privacy laws and regulations, including the legal requirements for the responsible transfer of sensitive personal data to/from the U.S., the EU and other jurisdictions. Through this program, Elaine earned the ANSI-accredited Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credential through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). The IAPP is the first organization to publicly establish standards in professional education and testing for privacy and data protection. The IAPP privacy certification is internationally recognized as a reputable, independent program. The CIPP was developed and launched by the IAPP with leading subject matter experts and is the world’s first broad-based global privacy and data protection credentialing program. It is the global standard in privacy certification.
