Monica Kalunian (Mendes) is a Partner in Selman Breitman’s Los Angeles office and is a member of the firm’s Insurance practice group. Monica represents insurance companies in contribution, reimbursement, and declaratory relief actions, including cases arising out of complex insurance coverage issues in the areas of commercial general liability, errors and omissions liability, and excess and umbrella coverage.  She also has experience in providing coverage advice and monitoring of underlying actions for complex claims, including construction defect claims involving numerous parties, carriers, and policies. 

Monica’s extensive experience in Insurance provides her a unique ability to evaluate complex coverage issues and handle a wide variety of insurance-related disputes across the nation under first-party and third-party policies, including professional liability, construction defect, personal and advertising injury, property damage, bodily injury, environmental, and toxic torts, and cyber liability. She works closely with clients regarding their coverage obligations and rights against others to create innovative strategies to best serve her clients' goals and interests.

Monica is called upon by clients and professional organizations to give presentations on various subject matters relating to claims handling and insurance coverage issues, including those specifically relating to the Fair Claims Settlement Practices Regulations and cyber liability.  She has also been recognized as a Southern California Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine. Monica also assisted with researching and drafting Chapter 38, "Understanding Errors and Omissions Insurance," New Appleman Insurance Law Practice Guide, Volume 3 (2007).

Monica is originally from Sunnyvale, California and presently resides in Los Angeles.   When not helping clients with their legal needs she spends her time cooking and baking.
